EU sanctions against Russia: what prevented reaching an agreement?
The European Union has not yet been able to agree on the implementation of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia due to opposition from Malta and Slovakia. There is no definitive decision on sanctions today. Both countries have refused to express support for different reasons. It is expected that the issue may be discussed at the next EU officials' meeting. The head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, expressed hope that sanctions will be adopted "today or tomorrow."
